Organizational Tips That Boost Home Comfort Levels
Whether you just want a better place to enjoy on rainy days or you’re looking to share your home with family and friends, now is as good a time as any to prepare your home for comfort and coziness. To that end, make it a point to clean, organize, decorate, and stock up on necessities. By ensuring your basic essentials are covered and you have a great space to enjoy, you can make the most of every moment, whether you’re hanging out at home solo or entertaining loved ones.
Reset Your Space
Is your home a place that generates positive vibes, or does it tend to bring you down? When you spend a lot of time experiencing stress in a single place, your mind starts to associate that place with stress. Fortunately, there’s a ton you can do to reset the energy in your home.
Start by taking advantage of a temperate day and opening up your windows for a few hours to let in the fresh air. You can also burn incense or light a candle, rearrange your furniture, or even make bolder changes such as painting the walls a new color. This is a great way to clear out old negative associations and empower your household to have a less frazzled future.
If you aren’t much of a painter, that’s okay, too. You can revamp your walls with contact wallpaper in an array of designs, from modern to retro. Whether you decide on a pattern created by a professional artist or you prefer to make your own, the end result can be truly inspiring! If you simply don’t know where to start, there are always sample packs that allow you to test drive different looks.
Clean
Up
As you work on your home, this is also an opportune time to do some tidying and organizing. This, too, will go a long way toward resetting your environment’s energy, but there’s more to it than that. When your space is tidy, you have an easier time relaxing. Psychology Today explains this is because mess keeps your brain on high alert, whether you’re aware of it or not. It’s the equivalent of taping a to-do list to your TV and trying to watch a show anyway — it’s going to diminish the experience.
If you have a lot of cleaning to do, tackle it in "20-10” cycles. This means clean for twenty minutes, then take a ten-minute break. If you get into the swing of things and want to go beyond twenty, that’s okay, but commit to a ten-minute break if you plan to continue cleaning for the day. This kind of method lets you work long enough to make noticeable achievements but also allows for plenty of time to recharge.
Organize
and Stock Your Pantry
This is also a good time to take a look through your pantry, make sure it’s easy to navigate, and do an inventory of non-perishable goods. Take special notice of things that could be hard to find if stores start running low on items due to foul weather or other concerns. Items such as paper goods, rice, and beans can fuel a wide range of recipes. If you need anything that might be particularly risky to run out of, such as baby formula, consider getting a small stockpile for security.
If your pantry is a bit of a disaster, take this chance to reorganize. Good Housekeeping points out there are plenty of pantry organization tips and tricks that will make your food stores easier to look through. Not only will this be aesthetically pleasing, but it will also help you keep better track of what you have and what you need. This way you’ll have an easier time keeping up with your grocery list, and you’re less likely to be caught without that one ingredient you need.
Are you ready to ramp up comfort and knock stress down a few notches? The homefront is a great place to do it! Take some time to make your home an inviting place to be. Whether it’s just for you or to share with those you love, you’ll look forward to every minute you get to spend at home.
